Yellow Daal in Toaster Oven

I have started using my toaster oven to do my daily cooking. It is so easy and quick, you cook , serve and store in the same pot. It takes less than an hour to make dinner. No standing and stirring on the stove. You just put all the ingredients including the oil mix them well and cover with foil, put it in the toaster oven on 350 degree for 35 minutes. Viola the dinner is ready to be served.

Ingredients for yellow Daal

1/2 cup yellow moong daal

Water 2 cups

Turmeric 1 tsp

1 tsp shredded ginger.

For tempering:

2 tbsp ghee or vegetable oil

1 tbsp cumin seeds

1 whole dry red chili.

1/2 tsp gram Masala

Soak the Daal in 2 cups of water for an hour. Wash the soaked Daal till the water is clear. In the heatproof dish put Daal with ginger, salt and turmeric with 1/1/2 cup of water, stir it. Cover with foil and turn on the toaster oven at 350 degree put the covered dish in the oven for 30 minutes. Use mitten to take out the dish, it should be thick and not mushy.

Prepare the tempering by heating the oil or ghee in the pan on medium heat. When oil is little hot put the cumin seeds with red chill, seeds start to crackle then add garam Masala and add this to Daal.

Your delicious Daal is ready to eat.
