Slow cooker has become an essential part of my cooking, while I was working I used to put my lentils or kidney beans in the morning in the slow cooker & turn it on and go to work, by the time you come home hot delicious lentils are done for dinner. Whenever I have party this method of cooking Indian lentils is so easy without fail results are so good. I gave small slow cooker to my friend’s daughter, she is so happy to use it! Tried Matar Paneer one day came out so good, as I do not have to stand by the stove to make this. Put all the stuff in it and checked after 3 hrs it is done and the taste is so good, less oil less work good results.
Cooking time 4 hrs, serves 6
3 cups frozen sweet peas
2 cups hot water
11/2 cubed paneer (get it from Indian Grocery store)
1 large onion finely chopped
1 tbsp shredded ginger
2 cloves chopped garlic
2 tbsp tomatoe paste
Salt to taste
2 tbsp sour cream or yogurt
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp chopped green chile
1 tbsp garam masala
Turn on the slow cooker on high add the first 8 ingredients stir it well, cover it with lid and let it cook for 3 hrs. When you check after 3 hrs it should be boiling, now you heat oil in small pan when it’s little smokey add cumin seeds and green peppers and garam masala, add this to the boiling matar paneer. Stir it and add the sour cream, cover the lid and let it cook for another hour, last one hour turn the slow cooker to medium heat setting. After one uncover it and your delicious matar paneer is done with less oil and less standing by the stove.
You can serve this with naan bread or rice, some people like it as thick soup with some toasted bread.
